WTMD’s First Thursdays kicked off the season with a memorable lineup at Canton Waterfront Park:
Seven Teller opened the evening with a genre-bending set that drew from dark wave, post-punk, art rock, psychedelia, and the jam scene. Led by Sam Cochran, the Baltimore-based band balances familiar influences with a distinctly modern approach, weaving together danceable grooves, improvisation, and atmospheric textures. The result was a captivating performance that showcased why Seven Teller has become one of the region’s most exciting live acts.
Happy Landing brought their signature blend of indie rock, bluegrass, punk, and Southern soul to the waterfront. Formed by five friends in Oxford, Mississippi, the band describes their sound as “canyon rock,” a fitting label for music that feels both expansive and deeply rooted. Known for their high-energy live performances, Happy Landing combined soaring harmonies, folk storytelling, and infectious enthusiasm into a set that had the crowd singing and dancing along.
Fantastic Cat closed out the night with the humor, heart, and musicianship that have made them a favorite among WTMD listeners. Returning to First Thursdays for the first time since their memorable 2024 appearance, the New York City supergroup brought songs from their latest album, Cat Out of Hell, to the Canton Waterfront stage. Dubbed the “Wu-Tang Clan of folk rock” by The Village Voice, Fantastic Cat features four acclaimed singer-songwriters who trade lead vocals and swap instruments throughout their set, delivering the sharp songwriting, loose Americana harmonies, and joyful chaos that make every performance unforgettable.
