With the hit songs “Ramblin’ Man” and “Jessica,” the 1973 Allman Bros. album “Brothers and Sisters” became the most successful album of their career.
50 years later, Baltimore’s own Ed Hough assembled an all-star lineup of musicians to perform “Brothers and Sisters” in its entirety – along with other Allman favorites and deep cuts Saturday Nov. 18 at The Recher in Towson.
The band includes Cris Jacobs on guitar, John Ginty on keys, Ed and Mike Gambone on drums, Dave Markowitz on bass and Bobby Thompson on guitar – along with a special guest or two.
Ed brought together a similar lineup in 2022 for the 50th anniversary of the Allman Bros’ album “Eat a Peach” at Power Plant Live, which was a hit. The Morgan Gonce Band opens up this year’s show at The Recher.
Ed Hough, drums and vocals
As a founding member of Smooth Kentucky, The Bridge, and the Cris Jacobs Band, Ed has been an influential part of the Baltimore music scene for decades. He fronts his own Collective projects paying tribute to The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band and the soon-to-be-released Gospel Celebration. He appears on dozens of albums playing drums, guitar, dobro and backing vocals.
John Ginty, keyboards
A founding member of Robert Randolph’s Family Band and a member of the Allman-Betts Band, John Ginty rode a quick rise to stardom; as a touring member with Jewel. Most recently, Ginty showcased his exceptional work as a keyboardist on a world tour in 2016-17 with the Dixie Chicks. Dozens of album appearances, both as a musician and producer, mark Ginty’s 30-year career, including with notable artists such as Santana and Citizen Cope. His time with Randolph garnered two Grammy nominations, while backing The Blind Boys of Alabama’s Grammy-winning effort, Higher Ground.
Cris Jacobs, guitar and vocals
A star of Baltimore’s roots and jam scenes, Cris Jacobs rose to prominence as the singer and guitarist from the popular Baltimore band The Bridge before branching out as a solo artist. He has performed with Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh & Friends on several occasions, toured with Steve Winwood and recorded with Ivan Neville and Jerry Douglas.
Dave Markowitz, bass
A Maryland native, Dave toured the country and abroad since 2004 with Baltimore’s The Bridge. Playing alongside his Bridge brothers and others in many different iterations, Dave has been entertaining music lovers for over 20 years in many different original and tribute bands.
Bobby Thompson, guitar and vocals
Winner of a 2018 Washington Area Music Association Award for Best Blues Album, Bobby Thompson has fronted bands like Blueheart Revival and Revelator Hill, and been a sideman for artists such as Justin Jones (930 Club Records), Laura Tsaggaris, and toured with SOJA.
Mike Gambone, drums
Longtime drummer for The Bridge, Mike Gambone is a go-to session player and music instructor and a vital part of Baltimore’s music scene.
