MONDAY:
Tune into the Morning Show with Alex Cortright. At 9:40 AM EST, he’ll be announcing June’s First Thursday Festival lineup, and interviewing the headliner. All we can tell you so far is that they’re fantastic and a ton of fun! Plus, we’ll be unveiling our new First Thursday branding designed by local illustrator Emilee Beeson.In the 12 o’clock hour, Izzi Bavis will welcome Baltimore’s pop princess Enslow into the studio for an acoustic set. Plus, she’ll talk about her experience entering her song “Cowboy Like Me” into NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert. Out of 6,000 entries, it was voted into the Top 50 and featured on Tiny Desk’s Top Shelf Series as a standout song that caught the attention of staffers and judges alike! Could she win it all? | This week we welcome back Abbey Carbonneau, the founder, creator, and now executive director of Book More Women—who you may know as the Instagram account and site that uses festival posters as a powerful visual aid to show the lack of gender diversity at music festivals, as well as the researched data to go with it. Abbey has been doing this work for eight years now as a passion project, and in the last year evolved the concept into a proper org, now with a board of directors, and on its way to becoming a full-fledged nonprofit. |

| We go where the music leads us, first live at home with trumpeter Wendell Brunious and his New Orleans All Stars. Wendell is from a famed New Orleans Creole jazz family and is now the music director of Preservation Hall. Then, we visit with the eccentric and witty songmaker and multi-instrumentalist Susan Werner with roots in rural Iowa. Susan’s stories in song are comedic and serious takes on religion, queerness, climate change and social responsibility. Plus words and music from Big Mama Thornton, Ella Fitzgerald, Johnny Cash and the Five Satins. |

| 1960’s era rock band, The Turtles, stir up a sea of controversy when they perform at The White House in 1969. Join WTMD on Tuesday, May 12 for an exclusive live performance and broadcast with Southern soul singer-songwriter Kashus Culpepper at The Collective Encore in Columbia. Limited tickets remain! Culpepper was a big hit at our First Thursday Festival last August–and since then, his star has only grown brighter. Last year, he was named one of GRAMMY.com’s 25 Artists to Watch, Amazon Music’s Bonfire Artist, Apple Music’s “25 Artists for ’25,” and selected as a member of Grand Ole Opry’s NextStage Class of 2025. On the road, Culpepper’s supported acts like Leon Bridges, Jelly Roll, Darius Rucker, and Eric Church. This year, he’s embarking on a major headlining tour. Back in January, Culpepper released his long-awaited debut album, Act I, including features from Marcus King and Sierra Ferrell with production from Brian Elmquist of The Lone Bellow. Designed for both newcomers and seasoned listeners, Classical Music for People with Short Attention Spans features the Columbia Orchestra performing a lively program of short, diverse works from across the classical repertoire, hosted by WYPR’s Taylor Holbrooks. Each piece is carefully selected to capture attention and stir emotion—without requiring a lengthy commitment. Tickets are available now for the 11am and 1pm shows on June 27. With thoughtful narration, a touch of humor, and an emphasis on accessibility, this performance is the perfect entry point for those curious about classical music or simply looking for a fresh concert format. | The 2026 New/Next Film Festival, presented by Baltimore Public Media, will return to The Charles Theatre Oct. 1-4, 2026, and just launched its call for entries. The submissions portal is now open for short- and feature-length films at Film Freeway. The festival also recently launched a unique project, the New/Next Film Festival home-viewing archive, a comprehensive public list of all films screened throughout the festival’s history alongside regularly updated information regarding where each film can be accessed by the general public via video-on-demand, streaming, and/or physical media. |
