A sneak peek of what’s coming this weekend…
SHEROES Radio (Saturday, 8a – 9a): Join Carmel for another week of bad a** women in rock!
The Underground Archives (Sunday, 8a – 10a): You’ll need to break out your lava lamps, Nehru jackets, and love beads as we enjoy a cavalcade of psychedelic-tinged songs from the 1970s. A set of John Lennon’s trippiest LSD inspired psychedelia with the Beatles will help you float downstream, as well.
American Routes (Sunday, 3p – 5p): Conversation with Los Lobos on their mix of American pop and Mexican traditions. We’ll visit Los Cenzontles, a community arts center in San Francisco dedicated to the teaching of Mexican music, and drop by a Philadelphia radio show spinning salsa hits for the neighborhood. Then we’ll sit in with pianist and bandleader Oscar Hernandez of the Spanish Harlem Orchestra for some Nuyorican beats and salsa moves. Plus a special performance by San Antonio’s queen of the conjunto accordion, Eva Ybarra.
Detour (Sunday, 5p – 7p): Remembering British bassist Danny Thompson; New music by Trey Hensley and Le Vent du Nord; Old music by The Bunch and Régis Gizavo; Music from Sweden/Denmark/Belgium, Canada, England, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Italy, Denmark, and Madagascar plus plenty from the USA; and you can’t outrun the brushy forks where we come from.
