A sneak peek of what’s coming this weekend…
SHEROES Radio (Saturday, 8a – 9a): This week’s guest is Neko Case, who releases her first album of new material in seven years today, Neon Grey Midnight Green. The years between albums have been jam-packed with a ton of creative projects, including her memoir, writing for a musical, her Substack, and recording and touring with The New Pornographers.
The Underground Archives (Sunday, 8a – 10a): It’s an action-packed edition of the Archives this week featuring some tasty long jams, concert performances, and a famous concert hall in Cardiff, Wales, that hosted many of the top bands of the 1960s. Also, The Season Of The Witch rears its spooky self.
American Routes (Sunday, 3p – 5p): Celebrating the Autumnal Equinox with a soundtrack for the changing season. Nina Simone’s “Chilly Winds Don’t Blow,” and Sarah Vaughan’s take on Kurt Weill’s “September Song.” Johnny Cash’s “Pickin’ Time”, Ahmad Jamal playing “Old Devil Moon,” and Van Morrison with “Moondance.” Paying tribute to the late Aretha Franklin, whose spirit prevails for all seasons.
Detour (Sunday, 5p – 7p): New music by Nick Harper and The Accidentals; Old music by Those Darn Accordions! and Papa Wemba & Molokai; Music from Ireland, England, Honduras (Garifuna), Scotland, USA/Canada, Finland, Canada, Italy, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Cape Verde plus plenty from the USA; and I still haven’t found crazy dirt road skates.
