The 5 O’clock Shadow: Thursday November 11, 2021

The Shadow band has not released an album in 10 years but were a seminal part of the alternative/Indie music scene in the 90’s.

The first recording of this song was a 1967 version by Waylan Jennings and a second version from Johnny Darrel was a #1 country hit but today I’m looking for the name of the Country Music Hall of Famer and his band who recorded it in 1969. He went on to have one of the most successful solo careers in country music. He is one of the bestselling music artists of all time and had a successful crossover career, which included duets with Lionel Richie and Sheena Easton.

The song is a tribute to Veterans Day and is the story of a World War II veteran’s trials and insecurities upon returning home from war.
