The 5 O’clock Shadow: May 12, 2021
The original band are being celebrated all month long on WTMD and the two principle songwriters wrote this while they were skipping school one day.
The bass line of this song borrows from the Chuck Berry song, “I’m Talking About You.”
The Shadow artist is cited as one of the first crossover black artists, reaching audiences of all races. His music and concerts broke the color line, drawing blacks and whites together despite attempts to sustain segregation. Many of his contemporaries, including Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Bill Haley, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Everly Brothers, Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran, recorded covers of his works.
