According to the original band’s guitarist, who was also a member of Modest Mouse, musically, this song is based on T. Rex’s glam rock anthem, “Metal Guru”.
The original artist wrote the song in reaction to an incident where a BBC DJ played the trite and spunky Wham! track, “I’m Your Man,” following a news report about the Chernobyl disaster.
The Shadow band’s front man recently collaborated with Bruce Hornsby and has a side project with Brian Burton.
