The 5 O’clock Shadow: Monday June 8, 2020

Today’s Shadow was the first song recorded and released by this legendary R&B/Soul singer after leaving his longtime label, Motown. It has been described as a post disco, soul and funk song and went to number one on the Billboard Hot R&B charts.  It stayed in the top ten for ten weeks and Rolling Stone ranked it number 233 on their 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list.

The cover was recorded in 1993 for a charity compilation LP by a  Minneapolis indie rock band whose lead singer dated a famous actress and ‘it” girl. The disc peaked at Number 10 on the U.S. Modern Rock Track list, despite not being promoted as a single.
