WTMD and Maryland Art Place are partnering to present “SEEN: 20 Years of Baltimore Music Photography” starting with a free preview reception Aug. 13 at WTMD.
**Update: this show has been rescheduled for Aug. 13**
In the last two decades, Baltimore’s music scene has risen from near obscurity to become one of the best in the country.
But due to the fleeting nature of music and art in the digital world, Baltimore’s contributions to the local and national music scene haven’t been documented in one place, and some of these artists and their music are in danger of being forgotten.
That’s why WTMD and Maryland Art Place are partnering to present “SEEN: 20 Years of Baltimore Music Photography,” a retrospective of Baltimore music through photos and other digital works curated by J.M. Giordano and Josh Sisk.
This new exhibit spotlights all genres and generations of Baltimore’s music scene. It aims to tell the story of Baltimore’s ever-growing music scene and its many talented bands and musicians, many of which started at small clubs around Baltimore only to land on national and international platforms.
“SEEN” kicks off with a free reception and live concert/on-air broadcast at WTMD’s performance studio April 16 featuring dozens of Baltimore bands, DJs and solo musicians.
The lineup includes rappers DDm and Height, Bmore Club DJ James Nasty, TaxLo’s Cullen Stalin, the Baltimore Rock Opera Society, garage rockers Thee Lexington Arrows, June Star, Caleb Stine and other stars of the Americana scene, Cara Beth Satalino of Outer Spaces and more TBA.
The show’s formal opening reception is Sept. 10 at Maryland Art Place, followed by satellite exhibitions of photos at various Baltimore live music clubs.
The WTMD reception starts at 5:30 p.m. Thursday April 16 at 1 Olympic Place in Towson. Sponsored in part by Boordy Vineyards and Coney Island Brewing Company.
