The original artist is known as the voice of a generation. He has sold more than 100 million records, making him one of the best-selling music artist of all time. He has been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, ten Grammy awards, and an Academy Award. He’s a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame and he has a Pulitzer but unlike any other song writer before him he has also been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
The Shadow artist sold out Merriweather last summer, are big Game of Thrones fans and they’re responsible for writing The Hanging Tree which was used in the hugely popular Hunger Games films. They also opened up for U2 back in 2017 at Fed-Ex.
The song was released in 1965 and was the first top 40 hit for the original artist. The song was influenced by previous work from Jack Kerouac, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Chuck Berry. Many other artists have paid homage to the song including R.E.M., and Radiohead.
