Dig into this week’s Saturday Alternative playlist! The Fitting Room album was Sanctuary by Baltimore’s own Super City.
It’s rare to find a young rock band that aims to create an experience for their audience every time they take the stage – not just getting up there and playing the songs, but really putting on a show. Baltimore’s Super City have made their mark by doing just that, using the energy of dance to heighten the impact of their music, which in and of itself is bold and exciting.
Bottling that kind of electricity in the studio is not easy to do, but Super City have done it on their new album, Sanctuary – the album largely recorded directly into their iPhones, allowing them to capture “that first point of raw inspiration,” as they said in a recent Baltimore magazine feature. While that immediacy is present throughout, Super City’s attention to detail – their unique pop sensibility and songwriting ambition can’t be ignored. From beginning to end, Sanctuary demonstrates the wide range of sounds and styles they’ve become known for, with blazing guitars and hooks for days.
