Alejandro Rose Garcia – the Austin singer-songwriter behind Shakey Graves – has built his career off of a foot-stomping kind of folk rock that came naturally considering the one-man band set-up he used during live performances. For his new album, Can’t Wake Up, he’s tossed that formula out the window to incorporate a wider range of rock and pop sounds – a lot of the experimentation playing into the dreamy nature suggested by the album title. And while he’s upped the production, he’s managed to do so without losing much of the raw and authentic quality that drew us towards him in the first place.
