“Bang! The Bert Berns Story” screens at WTMD for free on Jan. 18.

The songwriter and producer Bert Berns brought us some of the biggest hits of the 1960s — “Twist and Shout,” “Hang on Sloopy,” “I Want Candy” “Piece of My Heart” and many more.

And while Berns’ music lives on, he has been almost completely forgotten.

That’s why  WTMD and the Towson University Department of Electronic Media and Film are proud to present a free screening of the new documentary “Bang! The Bert Berns Story” as part of the WTMD Film Series.

Narrated by Steven Van Zandt, this new documentary features a who’s who of the music business (Paul McCartney, Van Morrison, Keith Richards and more) finally giving Berns his due.

You can see it for free on Thursday Jan. 18 here at 1 Olympic Place in Towson. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the movie starts at 8 p.m.
