Our Adult Kid this week is Lead Belly. I was so inspired by Lead Belly Baby, a new CD Dan Zanes just sent along. Lead Belly recorded music for grown ups and children and was one of the important musicians playing the blues and folk roots of rock and roll. Today we’ll listen to a new installment of smARTbeats, our monthly series talking with a Teaching Artist working in Maryland schools through Young Audiences of MD. We’ll check in with Alden Phelps, a performer and Teaching Artist who has been making music for kids for over 20 years. We’ll also be Talking Tunes with Brian and Tom – today’s tune is “Everybody Wants to Rule the world” by Tears For Fears. And we’ll hear new music from kindie artists Dan Zanes, Laurie Berkner and Jazzy Ash.

Here’s a captivating video of Lead Belly performing Pick a Bale of Cotton
