The original band existed around the writing and production partnership of two phenomenal musicians whose taste, wit, and sheer songwriting abilities made them one of the biggest rock bands of the 70’s, even though they were mainly a studio project for much of that time.
They namedrop themselves in this song, released as the lead single off their sophomore album. It features some great slide guitar work from Rick Derringer and a repetitive background vocal part that pokes fun at “Sin City.”
The Grammy-award winning Shadow artist loves this band, but maybe not as much as Chuck E. does. She enlisted one of the members of the original band to produce her 1989 album. Today’s Shadow comes from a collection released about 11 years later.
The 5 O’Clock Shadow is presented by Flying Dog Brewery.
