The original band are led by a prolific singer-songwriter who played in an alt-country band before forming this genre-defying group in the early 90’s, and more recently has produced albums for others, including a couple for a Staples Singer.
They included this song as the opening track to their critically acclaimed 2001 album. This was also the title of the documentary about them, released the next year.
The Shadow act – also from Chicago – pick up the pace and bring a soulful energy to the song. They got the chance to perform it with the leader of the original band when they played their festival in 2011.
