This week’s Adult Kid is James Taylor. Besides appearing with the muppets on Sesame Street, James recorded “Second Star to the Right” from the Peter Pan musical for Stay Awake – Various Interpretations of Music from Vintage Disney Films. We’ll listen to that, along with one of his kid-friendly adult tunes. James has been recording and performing music since 1966 and he’s still touring today. Here’s James singing to Oscar back in 1978.
We’ll also be introducing a new weekly feature called Talking Tunes With Brian and Tom. Pianist Brian Simms and drummer Tom Moon play in the Milkshake band, and after spending many years with them on stages and in green rooms and restaurants across this country, I’ve grown to love their dry, funny and very knowledgable take on all things music.
Brian and Tom Talking Tunes
I invited them into the studio the other day to talk about songs we’ll be hearing on Young At Heart, and a new feature was born. I hope you enjoy these short conversations about songs from the musicians’ point of view. Today, we’ll be talking about “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” in honor of the song and the album’s 50th anniversary, and listen to the reprise version off the newly released remastered CD.
We’ll also hear some vintage Sesame Street featuring Aaron Neville and Ernie (Jim Henson), the Vitamin String Quartet and some girl-empowering music from Rachel Crow and Rachel Loshak.
Enjoy!
