This week’s adult kid has caused havoc in my family, simply because the song Belle & Sebastian have written and recorded for kids is such an “ear worm,” that we can’t help singing it on whim and without reason, begging each other to just please stop. It’s like the “Chicken Song” or “It’s a Small World,” but so much better. It might take more than one listen to fully appreciate, which is why I have conveniently added the video for the song here. Play it for the kids. More than once and it’ll be firmly planted in your head for future use and abuse. Belle & Sebastian are a wonderful, quirky, intelligent Scottish band that have released some great records, some of which you’ve heard on WTMD. But today “The Monkeys Are Breaking out the Zoo.” Enjoy.
Lots of quirky in today’s show. We’ll hear Weird Al Yankovic’s “Foil,” a brilliant parody of Lorde’s “Royals.” I’m a big Weird Al fan, after meeting him many years ago and finding him just a really nice, super-funny guy. I love his many musical parodies and this one, although a bit dark by the end, is perfectly kid-friendly. There’s also “If You’re Ginormous and You Know it” from StevenSteven, a strange spoken-word with drums and a giant.
Enjoy & Happy Saturday!
