The original band were a hard rocking group of proto-punks from Detroit. Fronted by a thin, shirtless wild child, they helped lay the groundwork for underground punk and metal bands that came after.
You might be a real low mind if you enjoy rocking out to this song, included as the opening track to their 1970 sophomore album.
Though the Shadow band’s lyrical content was much more politically charged, the original band’s influence on them is clear. Their frontman – who celebrates his 47th birthday today – brought an intense hip-hop element to the groups loud, riff-heavy rock and roll. Though not currently playing with this group, he’s been active recently and is expected to release his debut solo album this year.
The 5 O’Clock Shadow is presented by Flying Dog Brewery.
