If you weren’t paying attention yesterday, you may have missed a surprise album release by Philly’s finest, Dr. Dog. The 10-track Abandoned Mansion comes just 10 months after their previous full length, The Psychedelic Swamp, and was released with no announcement and very little hype, other than a playful note on their website.
“Have you ever wondered, ‘Gee, I wonder when we’ll hear some new Dr. Dog tunes?’. No, I don’t think you have. In fact, no one has. We put out more music than the Wolfman and Frankenstein combined. They’re lightweights. And now we have an even newer album.”
They tracked most of the album live over the course of two weeks, and although it may be “Easy Peasy listening,” as they say, it’s by no means boring. These songs are the hook and harmony laden Dr. Dog at their best. Abandoned Mansion is available to stream/purchase from Bandcamp and if you buy it before the end of the year, all proceeds will go to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
