After Pharrell Williams was left speechless upon first hearing Maggie Rogers’ song “Alaska” during an NYU master class earlier this year, many knew the Eastern Shore native had a hit on her hands. The song, blending her folksy roots with her newfound love for pop and dance music, quickly became a favorite for TMD listeners and music lovers nationwide. Now, after write-ups and features in major music publications like Billboard, Pitchfork and even Vogue, the up-and-coming singer-songwriter has shared a new music video for the song that made her a viral sensation.
Directed by filmmaker Zia Anger (Strand of Oaks, Angel Olsen, Jenny Hval), the video brings Maggie home to Maryland where she dances freely in the woods and parties through the night with her friends. In a Facebook post, Maggie says “thank you to all of my friends who came to Maryland to dance with me and to my parents for putting up with our creative shenanigans.” Watch the video below.
