This week on The Saturday Alternative, we dove right in with a wildly impressive new song from Diane Coffee, the solo project of Foxygen drummer Shaun Fleming. We hit the dance floor with exciting new music from Disclosure, who are set to release their highly anticipated followup to 2013’s Settle, and we got moving to a brand new, disco-infused track from electro-pop duo YACHT. We heard an infectious new track from MUTEMATH, got a taste of Deerhunter‘s upcoming album, Fading Frontier (and it tasted kind of funky), and dug into a surprisingly up-beat, synth based new single from Irish singer-songwriter James Vincent McMorrow. Chris Baio (Vampire Weekend) shared a new song from his upcoming debut solo album as Baio, and Editors gave us a huge new track from their upcoming album In Dream. We rounded things out with a beautiful and ethereal new song from Baltimore’s own Beach House, who are set to release their new album Depression Cherry on August 28th.
Our Fitting Room album came from the Cali based indie rock band Gardens & Villa, who returned to their DIY roots for a new album called Music For Dogs. The album follows 2014’s Dunes, an album of shimmering, synth driven, alt-r&b and dance-pop tracks. Although they may have gained a larger fan base with that album, it was a sound that they seem to have been less happy with. For Dunes, they moved from from their home in Santa Barbara to set up shop in a new location in LA, and made the kind of music they could be proud of. The resulting sound is psychedelic and surprising, and although there is maybe more of a lo-fi aesthetic than before, there’s a renewed energy and excitement that you can feel.
