This week on The Saturday Alternative, we rocked out with new music from Nashville’s Them Vibes, Atlanta’s Starbenders, San Diego’s Wavves, and Oxford’s Foals. We got down and dirty with dance-punks !!! (pronounced “Chk Chk Chk”) and British producer Julio Bashmore, and we got weird with La Luz and Gardens & Villa. We also checked out EL VY, the new collab between Matt Berninger of The National and Brent Knopf of Menomena. Their sound goes in a much brighter and more uplifting direction than I ever thought we’d hear from The National frontman.

Our Fitting Room album was Lovers Know, the new album from Laura Burhenn (formerly of DC duo Gerogie James) and The Mynabirds. It’s been about three years since the last The Mynabirds album, 2012’s Generals, during which time she toured with The Postal Service and traveled all over the US and South Africa. A lot of the inspiration for her new album came from her travels. “There’s something about wandering the world over that makes you realize how similar we all are,” Burhenn said in a press release. “Everyone searching for something, so often the same thing: love.” Lovers Know is out now on Saddle Creek.
