WTMD is seeking highly motivated students who want to learn the art, craft and science of radio and audio recording for the fall semester. You will gain real world experience in WTMD’s brand new state of the art broadcast facility located at Towson City Center.

Each Internship concentration focuses on a specific area of the station and includes access to WTMD’s General Manger and other senior staff members. Tasks for each department are significant and, if you’re truly ready for a career in radio, provide you with a skill set superior to post college job applicants.

Here is a brief set of duties for each track. Be aware that all WTMD interns are expected to attend station events on and off site and that may include evening and weekend hours.

Programming

You’ll program the Baltimore Channel, WTMD’s HD station and internet stream featuring 100% Baltimore Artists.  You’ll input music, create imaging spots, schedule interviews and increase the impact this radio station has on the Baltimore music scene.  Plus you’ll work on our main channel to learn how schedule, produce and execute campaigns for WTMD.

Digital Media

You’ll organize WTMD’s digital assets across all platform, especially our own website and You Tube Channels.  This includes our videos, archival interviews, and other assets.  You’ll promote your work in social media, face to face media, any media at all to build an audience for your work.  You’ll report back on page views, and other metrics.

Video Production

You’ll record, mix, finalize and post WTMD’s in-studio performances. See our Facebook page for upcoming bands and artists.  Video is a crucial part of WTMD’s programming strategy and you’ll be on the front lines of making sure WTMD develops a national reputation for our performances.  We’ve got a full video production facility for you to work in.

Graphic Design and Digital Signage

Have you seen that big ticker sign above the station at Towson City Center?  Want to program it?  It can take RSS feeds, show movies on it and do lots of other cool stuff. You’ll take our messages and turn them into visual extravaganzas to attract attention to WTMD.  Plus, you’ll work on our print and digital projects like show posters, our e-newsletter, and overhauling the look of our website.

Events Management

WTMD’s First Thursdays Concerts in the Park IS Baltimore’s most popular free concert series attracting more than 10,000 attendees.  Sign up by September 4th and you’ll learn all the details that go into making this a successful event….Oh Yeah—And you’ll meet The Hold Steady.  You’ll also work on our Live Lunch series, Art shows, and other events that make our station a community clubhouse for music lovers.

Marketing and Sales

Find out if you’re a media sales person type by interning with our Sponsorship Department. You’ll track down decision-makers and help prepare proposals that will generate revenue that’s used to operate WTMD.  You could also explore our membership department and learn first hand what goes into being a successful fund raiser.  It’s more than stuffing envelopes—You’ll learn how to create and time strategic communications that encourage membership donations.

Perks of being a WTMD Intern

You’ll get to meet more bands and artists than you can shake a stick at. There’s a spattering of Free Concert Tickets for a job well done and then there’s the t-shirts and pint glasses.  You’ll be part of a musical movement that has been named Best Radio Station by City Paper and Baltimore Magazine more times than any other radio station in the city.
