Moments before our live recording with Baltimore post-punk duo Weekends, I had a moment of pure terror when I realized they had plugged one guitar into three amps — two guitar amps and a bass amp. And they were all cranked.

“I’ll be back in a minute,” I said, and ran to my desk to get a pair of noise-cancelling headphones.

I’m glad I did. Weekends, the duo of Adam Lempel and Brendan Sullivan, was the loudest band we’ve had in the new WTMD studio. Louder than Lazlo Lee and the Motherless Children, who did this to the audience at our Rock ‘n’ Roll-A-Thon last fall.

Weekends opened with “Basement Fuzz,” one of my favorite Baltimore tracks, and if you were anywhere in the building it was impossible to get work done.

You can hear the Baltimore Hit Parade session with Weekends tonight at 9 p.m., or at 4 p.m. Sunday.
