Sunny Side Up: Surfer Blood

Surfer Blood 1

John Paul Pitts possesses one the great screams in alternative rock music. It’s fun to hear it come out of nowhere in songs he initially sings in an interesting choir-boy kind of way, ala the TMD favorite “Demon Dance.”

Surfer Blood is back with their second album PYTHONS. Gil Norton of Pixies and Foo Fighters fame produced the second effort for the West Palm Beach, FL quartet.

The band knows there way around a good hook, but on their 2010 debut ASTRO COAST, they marinated the melodies in darker reverberations.

On the new record, the music is sunnier and the lyrics much darker- with Pitts alluding to a toxic relationship.

Hear the cool contradictions below….and hear J.P. SING the scream parts on “Demon Dance.” It’s cool to hear the lyric come out…

Surfer Blood plays the 930 Club October 3rd.
