Eddie Ford turns 78- he had the hit ‘Knock On Wood’ and also wrote ‘634-5789’ for Wilson Pickett.

Born on this day, Clint Warwick, bass, The Moody Blues original bassist Clint Warwick was born on this day in 1940.  Clint died from liver disease in 2004.

Carly Simon turns 68 today. I wonder what she’s gonna publish next.

The keyboardist and singer for Toto- David Paich turns 59.

In 1966, Jackie Wilson was arrested for inciting a riot in Port Arthur Texas. Wilson had whipped up a crowd of 400 whipped into a mob and refused to stop singing when the police told him to. He was later convicted of drunkenness and fined $30.

In 1977, Marvin Gaye went to No.1 on the US Singles Chart with ‘Got To Give It Up’.  This was his thrid No. 1 Hit.

In 1983, The film soundtrack to ‘Flashdance’ started a two-week run at No.1 on the US album chart.

Today in 1988, Hillel Slovak- the original guitarist and founding member of The Red Hot Chili Peppers died from a heroin overdose shortly after the band returned from a European tour. Slovak recorded two albums with the band, Freaky Styley and The Uplift Mofo Party Plan.

In 1993, David Letterman signed off of NBC and stepped over to CBS two months later. Bruce Springsteen and Tom Hanks were Letterman’s last guests on this day.

And finally, on this day in 2009, Michael Jackson died at the age of 50.  But he will live on forever in his music.
