Beach House

How’s this for a mid-week treat: Baltimore dream pop duo Beach House just released a new single called “Myth,” which is available for free download on their site (just sign up for their mailing list).

“Myth” opens with a bit of percussion, and keyboard notes begin to tumble over Alex Scally’s atmospheric guitar riffs. Right off the bat, you know it’s Beach House. Then comes singer Victoria Legrand’s ashy voice, and the song really takes shape: “What comes after this / momentary bliss / consequence/ of what you do to me. / Help me to make it. / Help me to make it.”

One of the things I love most about Beach House is the way the songs twist and turn in unexpected directions. Beach House’s label, Sub Pop, hasn’t set any firm release dates for the album, titled “Bloom,” yet. I’m sure it won’t be long.

The last album, 2010’s “Teen Dream,” is one of my favorites. And if “Myth” is any indication, this new album will be a surefooted follow-up.
