John Mathews had the pleasure of introducing several artists at Hot August Blues, including J.J. Grey (above).

WTMD broadcast live from the festival at Oregon Ridge, and Melissa Goode interviewed performers throughout the day, including: John Hiatt, Marcia Ball and J. J. Grey.

Just up from the crossroads, host John Mathews serves up a belly full of blues from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday.

Every week the menu runs the gamut from smokey blues to deep-fried rock and 2 x 4 twang, featuring a variety of artists such as Marcia Ball, Buddy Guy, Taj Mahal, The Nighthawks, Blind Lemon Jefferson and Pinetop Perkins.

Special program features include:

  • Double Down Two songs from a blues artist in the news or traveling through town.
  • Fresh from the Smokehouse Two tracks from a current release.
  • At the Crossroads A classic Delta or roots-blues tune followed by a contemporary artist performing in the genre.
