Coming to Baltimore for the first time on the heels of their sold out show headlining at the DC jewish Music Festival June 13th and the Kennedy center before that, this internationally acclaimed sextet will bring their highly theatrical mix of eclectic music to The Creative Alliance at the Patterson - sung in 15 languages, with top hats, gypsy-tinged burlesque and flair. Local Gypsy Balkan brass band, Baltimare opens the show with special guests Charm City Tribal's bellydance troupe Lilam.

07/30/2010 - Short-Track Motorcycle Racing

The dirt will fly at the Baltimore County Trail Riders Association's short-track racing series in Timonium, held annually since the early 1970s. Six to ten motorcyclists at a time race multiple laps, elbow to elbow, around the fairgrounds' pony ring, about a tenth of a mile in length. Trail Riders President Brett Friedel compares it to a smaller-scale Nascar. Proceeds benefit cystic fibrosis research and the Cockeysville Optimist Club, which sells food at the track.

07/31/2010 - Great Illustrations: Drawings and Books from the Walters� Collection

This exhibition explores the variety of ways in which 19th-century artists approached the art of illustration. It features seldom-seen drawings, watercolors and books from the permanent collection of the Walters Art Museum, including drawings for Gustave Dore's Holy Bible (1866) and Paul Gavarni's lively sketches of the London underworld. French, American and British artists' responses to the works of William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens and Jonathan Swift join the volumes in which they were published.

With the birth of lithography and the widespread use of steel and wood engraving, the 19th century saw an explosion in the art of illustration. Illustrated newspapers, magazines and literature, aimed at both adults and children, became more widely available than ever before. For the first time the very latest images by the most fashionable artists could be owned and enjoyed by people at all levels of society.

This mass circulation of images also encouraged collectors to place new value on exceptional and personal expressions, seeking out illustrated autographs and assembling albums of sketches. The 15 works in this exhibition reveal both the popular art of published illustrations and the unique images sought by collectors.

A fun and informative community baby shower for young expectant mothers, hosted by Bliss Restaurant & Wine Bar in Bel Air on Saturday, July 31^st from 12-3pm.

A free event for local pregnant women in need of information and advice.

There will be speakers, as well as entertainment, gifts and refreshments.

A great chance to meet other experienced mothers in the area, who will be sharing stories and tips.
